PROGRAM
Beginning at 10:00 a.m., refreshments (light snacks, coffee, tea, etc.) will be available. We will start the workshop promptly at 10:30 a.m..

In order to maximize discussion, authors will not make detailed presentations. Instead, they may offer brief introductory comments, and then we will open the floor to questions. Participants are expected to have read the papers (below) so that virtually all of the time can be devoted to Q&A.

10:30 a.m.: Molly Reynolds (Brookings) and Geoff Lorenz (Nebraska): “‘Our Ability to Continue Legislating Must Remain Beyond Question’: Proxy Voting in the House of Representatives During the COVID-19 Pandemic”

11:30 a.m.: Andrew Thompson (GW), Ethan Busby (BYU), and Suzy Yi (BYU): “Which Matters More, The Means or the Ends? Preferences for Responsiveness in Process and Policy”

12:30 p.m.: Lunch

1:15 p.m.: Liz Suhay (AU): Introduction ("Debating the American Dream") and Chapter 6 ("Partisan Divides over Explanations for Inequality") from Debating the American Dream: How Beliefs about the Causes of Inequality Polarize U.S. Politics. {A chapter outline for the entire book begins on p. 17.]

2:15 p.m.: Mark Richardson (Georgetown), Christopher Piper (Vanderbilt), and David Lewis (Vanderbilt): "Measuring the Impact of Appointee Vacancies on U.S. Federal Agency Performance"
